Novato, CA- A 17 year-old Novato boy is facing DUI charges after losing control of his SUV and injuring five of his passengers.
Early Tuesday morning, just after midnight, an unidentified young man and five of his teenage friends where driving in a Novato neighborhood. Police said he was traveling between 60 and 80 mph in a 25 mph zone when he lost control of his SUV. The driver slammed into a fire hydrant, a tree and finally coming to rest in a ditch, according to The Patch.
All six of the occupants, three boys and three girls were injured. One of the girls broke her jaw, and one of the boys had a head injury, both were taken to a local hospital. All of the other occupants were able to crawl out of the wreckage, and received treatment from the scene.
After questioning, the young driver told police that he had two liquor drinks and smoked marijuana prior to driving. He has been charged with two felony counts of DUI involving bodily harm and one count of reckless driving.
Since a felony DUI can lead to a jail sentence, along with marring a young person’s record, avoiding this requires and aggressive defense. And no one is better equipped to launch an effective drunk driving defense than a DUI attorney, who is backed up by years of experience. Proficient representation can stop a conviction and give the accused a chance to plead to a lesser charge.
